HARRISBURG – Sen. Ryan Aument (R-36) today took the oath of office to begin the 2023-24 legislative session in the state Senate working for the 36th Senatorial District.
With this ceremony, Aument begins his third term in office. The day’s proceedings also included the formal election of Sen. Kim Ward (R-39) as Senate President Pro Tempore, as well as a vote on rules to govern the body for the next two years.
“I am looking forward to continuing to champion issues that matter to my constituents and to work collaboratively with my colleagues to pass meaningful reforms that will positively impact the quality of life for all Pennsylvanians,” said Aument. “For example,
- Reducing the tax burden,
- Limiting sexual content in schools,
- Pursuing energy independence and increasing electric grid reliability and resiliency,
- Addressing student loan debt,
- Ensuring all students have access to a quality education through lifeline scholarships,
- Boosting economic competitiveness and advocating for the acceleration of the Corporate Net Income Tax reduction we passed last year, and
- Permitting reform.
“Focusing on policies where we agree, working across the aisle, and seeking consensus where we can will be necessary if we want to produce real results for the people of Pennsylvania.”
Aument was elected by his colleagues to serve as the Senate Majority Whip for the 2023-24 legislative session. In this leadership role, he will act as assistant floor leader, work to gain support for legislation, and ensure that Republican policies and strategies are maintained through the cooperative efforts of the majority caucus.
The Senate will return to voting session on Monday, Jan. 9. Aument has not yet been assigned to the committees on which he’ll serve, but will announce that information when it is available.
