Aument Accepts New Role as State Director for United States Sen.-Elect Dave McCormick

It has been an honor of a lifetime to serve as your State Senator.

Earlier this week, I announced that I have accepted the role of state director for U.S. Sen.-Elect Dave McCormick. Accordingly, I intend to officially resign from my position as Pennsylvania State Senator for the 36th senatorial district serving northern Lancaster County prior to Jan. 3, 2025. My offices will remain open and the staff serving the 36th Senatorial District will remain available to assist constituents with state-related matters throughout the transition period.

I am humbled and honored that Sen.-Elect McCormick has trusted me to lead his statewide operation here in Pennsylvania. Dave’s transformational vision for our Commonwealth, commitment to conservative values, and exceptional leadership qualities will make him an excellent United States senator, and I am eager to begin working on building a stronger Pennsylvania with him.

I’m tremendously grateful for the opportunity to have served the good people of Lancaster County in the Pennsylvania General Assembly for the last 14 years, and I want to assure the residents of the 36th Senatorial District that you will continue to have access to the high-quality services my office offers up until a new senator takes my place. My staff remains willing and able to assist constituents with state-related matters throughout the special election cycle.

Visit from United Disabilities Services Foundation Dogs

We recently received a special visit from United Disabilities Services Foundation service dogs at my District Office in Lititz! It was a joy to speak with their handlers and learn more about the important work they do. The hardworking pups are partnered with people who have a mobility disability, autism, or post-traumatic stress disorder to help them live fuller lives.

For more photos of these furry (working) friends, check out my Instagram post here.

Lancaster Girl Scouts Help the Environment with Rain Garden

Four girls in Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania Troop 70585 of Lancaster County learned about rain gardens and how they help wildlife. They visited local rain gardens to see how they looked and worked, performed their own research, created a website, and ultimately planted a rain garden with more than 120 native plants.

The garden was planted in a corporate center where it reduces runoff and is attractive to visitors. For more photos of this spectacular project, check out my Instagram post here.

Touring the United Way of Lancaster County 211 Contact Center

The United Way of Lancaster County’s 211 Contact Center, or Pennsylvania 211 East, has more than 40 years of experience providing information and referrals for a broad range of services including child care, after-school programs, food banks, elder care, basic needs, health services, and more. In October alone, it provided 542 resources to constituents in the 36th Senatorial District!

In recognition of its record of professional service, PA 211 East became the call center for seven counties in 2011 that it still serves today: Berks, Carbon, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Northampton, and Schuylkill counties. It also provides housing and homelessness intake screenings for 35 counties across Pennsylvania.

I am so grateful for the hard work of the employees at PA 211 East and the lifechanging assistance they provide to residents all across central Pennsylvania!

Congrats to Eagle Scout of Leola

Congratulations to Joshua Fidler of Leola for earning the impressive rank of Eagle Scout! For his Eagle Scout community service project, Joshua created a memorial bench on a bed of red rock with a U.S. flag at the Bethany Grace Fellowship cemetery. The bench honors those who have served in the military, police forces, fire services, and emergency medical services.

Joshua is a member of Troop 83 in Leola. He has served his troop as assistant senior patrol leader, senior patrol leader, and junior assistant scoutmaster.

Tips to Stay Safe Throughout the Holiday Season

The holiday season is a special time when many of us spend time with loved ones enjoying long-loved traditions. Because these special activities can come with extra risks, taking some precautions is wise.

Candles, which cause the most fires on Christmas day, should be kept at least 12 inches from anything that can burn.

Trees should be at least three feet from heat sources like fireplaces, radiators, space heaters, candles, and heat vents. It’s best to dispose of the tree when it’s dry or after the holiday season. Discarding string lights that are worn or damaged also protects against fires. Read more about winter fire prevention.

Help Wanted: Qualified Professionals Needed to Improve DEP Permit Process

To help Pennsylvanians who are tied up by bureaucratic red tape, Senate Republicans passed legislation as part of this year’s state budget that created the Streamlining Permits for Economic Expansion and Development (SPEED) Program.

The program allows permit applicants to have a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)-verified professional conduct the initial review of the application, with DEP making its decision based on the qualified professional’s recommendation. Applicants for eligible permits must pay any review fees incurred by the professional in addition to their permit application fees.

Qualified professionals who would like to review permits on an expedited basis are encouraged to apply for the specific permits that interest them by Dec. 31. Permits eligible for the SPEED program include air quality plan approvals (state-only) (Chapter 127), earth disturbance permits (Chapter 102), individual water obstruction and encroachment permits (Chapter 105) and dam safety permits (Chapter 105). Please email brfranklin@pa.gov or call 717-787-2471 with any questions.

Wreaths Across America to Honor Veterans on Dec. 14

Each December, Wreaths Across America helps communities remember the fallen, honor those who served in the military and teach the next generation about the value of freedom by laying wreaths on the graves of heroes.

These acts of remembrance take place at Arlington National Cemetery, and more than 4,600 locations in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad.

Ceremonies take place on Saturday, Dec. 14. You can help by sponsoring a veteran’s wreath at a cemetery near you, volunteering, or donating to programs. Search for the nearest participating cemetery here.
